Festival of Sleep Day

Today is a day devoted to sleep. So I thought, what a better way to celebrate than to learn some new facts about sleep?!. . .So here we go!

- On average Humans spend 33% of their life sleeping while dogs spend over 50% sleeping and cats tend to sleep for 70% of their lives!

- Giraffes sleep for just 1.9 hours per day while Koalas can sleep up to 22 hours per day.

- Dysania is the state of finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning.

- Lack of sleep can cause weight gain

- You burn more calories sleeping than watching tv.

- Dogs tend to circle before lying down because it is a natural instinct. When in the wild they do that to pat down the ground/grass to make a bed for themselves.

- 65% of Americans lose sleep because of stress.

- Withing 5 minutes of waking, 50% of a dream is forgotten. Withing 10 minutes of waking, 90% of a dream is forgotten.

One of the most interesting things that I found out when researching, is that we, as people, could go longer without food than we could without sleep. The longest documented person to go without sleep made it only 11 days. During that time they had paranoia, memory problems, and suffered from hallucinations.

Sleep tight everyone!
