National Library Day

Who doesn't love their local library? They have computers that you can use, dvd's to rent, but most importantly they have books! Lots and lots of books! You can find books for any age and for almost any topic. You can find fictional books, how-to books, educational books, kids books, along with many others!

I got my first library card in 2nd grade. The card I currently have is actually that same card. I know this because when I look on the back there is Er written and then Erin written in cursive next to it because my mom told me I had to sign my name in cursive for it to count.  Since then I have been able to go to the library not only to help with school work, but to read books for my own enjoyment. When I was in high school I would go to the library at least once a week for a book club that we had there, and every now and then we would have what was called "Arts After Dark". Arts After Dark was a program for high schoolers where they could come and show off their talents. It could be a poem or story, playing the piano, amongst other things. I also went to our local library the night that the 7th Harry Potter book was going to be released. That was a blast. We had people dressed up as wizards and witches. Some of the organizers would come around and take our photo and throughout the night they would post the photo on a "Wanted for Treason" poster. Then anyone could come and get us and take us to "Azkaban" (a little room in the library). Their reward for finding and bringing them to jail was a chance to win a free copy of the book at midnight. I didn't win, but I did have a lot of fun.

The biggest thing about the library that I learned as a kid, is that it's more than just books. Its about learning and having fun at the same time! So make sure if you don't have a library card to get one, and if you do, go check out your local library!
